Geography Lesson: Paradise is at Villa Tania

The location of this villa is second to none, it's surrounded by the sea on three points of the compass, so every room gets it's own sea view. Some rooms get the sunset, some the sun rise and some gets both! The best thing is being able to go to sleep with the sound of gentle waves lapping at the rocks.

Pollonia is a small and quiet fishing village, the villa is a short 5-10 minutes walk to the village centre where you will find all amenities, great restaurants, ATM, bakery and small super market. The walk takes you past the local beach which was never crowded during our stay. The local villagers are all very friendly and will greet you as you walk by. The villa is situated on a piece of spectacular coastline, so an evening stroll after dinner is relaxing and a morning stroll before breakfast is refreshing.

The villa is family owned and the whole family is very warm and friendly offering great and personal service. The rooms are very comfortable and extremely clean. Personal safes are available at reception with your own personal set of keys. Breakfast is amazing. Although in the basement, but due to the villa's location, it's very bright in the mornings. Mary (Tania's mum) makes a great breakfast with homemade jams and marmalade, cakes and cookies and a variety of fresh fruit, greek yogurt with dried fruits and honey, ham and cheese, boiled eggs and cereal, and of course tea and coffee and orange juice.

The family was very helpful. Tania gave us lots of advice on where to visit and what to do on Milos. She even gave us tips on where to go in Athens as she knew we were travelling there before going home to the UK. Tania was kind enough to book our ferry tickets to Athens as there are no tickets agents in Pollonia. Mary was also kind enough to pick us up and drop us off at the port in Adamas as we didn't bother to rent a car. George (Tania's father) is a great character and full of stories.

We were married last September, but didn't get a chance to go on honeymoon until now, so we regarded this as a mini belated honeymoon. As such, we couldn't ask for a more romantic, relaxing place, truly a paradise on earth. We felt totally relaxed here and We're already planning our next trip here as we felt 4 nights were not enough. To give you an idea of how relaxing our room was, one morning, we had made plans over breakfast to rent a car and drive around the island to the various sights Tania had pointed out to us. We got back to our room to get ready and as soon as we open the doors to the balcony, saw the azure waters and heard the waves, we just didn't want to go out!

There was only a slight downside, but this is to be expected in such a climate. We had problems with mosquitos during 2 of the 4 nights. This is because we had the windows and doors open so that we could listen to the waves. The villa does provide anti-mosquito incense which you plug into an electrical socket, but this wasn't that effective. However, you could always switch the air conditioning on, we just didn't feel very green to do that with the doors and windows open.
